Even the Experience of Shade Provides Variety in Earth Experiences

Are you on other planets doing the same thing, experiencing the night? Are you on more than one planet besides your home planet?

No. I am not on the home planet.

I know. What I mean to ask is, is your species only on Earth and the home planet?

Oh, I see. Yes, only on Earth and the home planet. Yes. As I said, we appreciate stability, so we’re not inclined to wander.

If you made interstellar friends, couldn’t they possibly take some seeds and sort of start you someplace else?

I know that makes sense to you as a human being, but let me put it another way. If you had children, could you imagine sending your children off to another planet? All seeds are just like children — exactly like that — producing the same feelings of love and family. It’s no different for us than it is with you. We wouldn’t like that.

Well, this is going to be an interesting book.

Well, they’re all that way, aren’t they? They’re intended to illuminate and enlighten, which is why I believe you get volunteers, such as myself, because the whole point of your books, near as I can tell, is to open — as one might open the covers of a book, yes? — the awareness to see beyond what has been taught, even beyond what has recently been discovered, and on to what can be known.

Yes, and I appreciate your contribution. So you don’t have trees on your home planet, but you do have trees in the area you’re in now?

Yes, I do. I’m very fond of them. I have one friend who is a very large tree — well, very large from my perspective. From time to time, depending on the time of day, there is shade. Of course, such a thing doesn’t exist on my planet, so when I have communication of a sort — a communion — with those on the home planet, they understand it as a form of night. But of course, I understand it as something different. It is, however, a cooler time, and one appreciates, if I might refer to myself that way, the variety of experiences on this planet. For us, you understand — stable beings who do not move much, except because of the wind or other influences — to have things change around us without our really doing much to bring that about is quite startling, and to have shade is quite amazing. I have discussed this with my tree friend quite a bit, and my tree friend says that they often get such feedback, if I might use that word, in the form of communion with other plant species and animals who appreciate the shade. My tree friend often experiences animals who come on a warm day to appreciate the shade, and Tree is very happy to provide that.
